Most all current version of web browsers support a series of built-in fonts. When creating web pages specifying fonts via the HTML Font markup tag or via CSS (Casading Style Sheets) it is advised to include at least one of the listed default fonts within the font-family specification.
Most current operating system support a standard set of Web Fonts available across all standard operating systems. These fonts are recommended when specifying fonts in documents intended for viewing by the general public. Including these fonts within font specification helps to assure support across platforms.
And, Adobe Acrobat supports a series of built-in fonts. When creating PDF documents it is recommended to use the PDF fonts to assure formatting is consistent across platforms. Using these fonts permits generation of PDF documents without having to include the fonts within the document making its file size to remain at a minimum; an important consideration when transmitting a file across networks or when documents contain many pages of content.
